Auckland’s Logick Print & Graphics has won its second Pride In Print Supreme Award with a premium packaging job.

The company produced a multi-faceted presentation box to showcase the top tier status of honey supplier True Honey. Dave Gick, owner at Logick, says he feels fortunate that the company can cater for clients who want something out of the ordinary. He says, “Our reputation has been paved down that road for specialty and unique jobs. Sometimes with the jobs we take on, I am not even sure myself at the start if we can do it. That’s how much of a challenge it is.

“We are still developing techniques about how to get new results. When customers push us, we push ourselves.”

The True Honey Large & Small Presentation Case also won this year’s packaging category prize. Created to showcase the honey as a premium product, the presentation case opens in concertina fashion; a jar of manuka honey firmly gripped within the folds. Purchasers can refold the box and continue to showcase the honey after taking it home.

Judges said, “Not only is the packaging spectacular, the design is perfect for the export market in particular. The outer packaging is sealed, preventing anyone other than the buyer from touching the contents, and ensuring total product integrity while being posted or couriered.”

Christchurch has missed the Pride In Print Awards since the 2011 earthquakes. The town turned on a cool and wet evening for the event but the rain did not dampen the spirits of all who attended. The print industry’s night of nights proved a massive success.

TV star Jeremy Corbett flew down from Auckland to host the show with local celebrity Joe Bennett. The pair mixed humour with a decent sense of urgency to keep the show rolling through its agenda of awards.

The evening presented a range of highlights apart from the supreme award. In a first for Pride In Print, judges awarded a supreme runner up award to Caxton Print for its Lets Take A Walk, which tells the story of the Crofski family, owner of the C1 Expresso, a popular central city Christchurch café forced to close after the 2011 earthquake.

Simon Yendoll, convenor of judges, spoke at the commencement of the show commenting on the quality of the entries. He said, “The standard of entries this year is the highest in the 24-year history of the Pride In Print Awards. This year’s entries have highlighted the impact the printed media has in every sector of New Zealand’s industries.”
