Self-adhesive specialist Herma has released a an inkjet film approved for marine use, including printing, when used with certain inkjet systems.
The company says when used with Epson, Primera and Kiaro inkjet systems, printers can use its latest film to affordably print seawater-resistant labels. Specifically, the certification covers the film being used with Epson TM-C3500 and Colorworks TM-C7500, Epson Colorworks TM-C7500G, Primera LX2000e and Kiaro D print systems.
According to Herma, printers can offer label users the print properties they require, or supply blank seawater-resistant labels which users can print themselves. Ralf Drache, sales director at Herma, says, “In combination with pigment ink, our new adhesive material is predestined to print small and small batches in particular both efficiently and at a favourable cost. Whether sheetfed or web printing, the film delivers outstanding results with commercially available inkjet printers.”
Herma says the scrathc-resistant film promotes fast drying of colour inks, even with overprinting of multiple colours, as is the case with photographic images. The company describes it as, “an acrylate-based permanent adhesive that offers excellent processing parameters, a bonus for film applications in particular. In view of its aggressive adhesive behaviour, this grade is suited for critical surfaces, such as rough carton, for applying labels to small plastic containers, metal containers, or drums containing chemicals, and for hot filling applications.”
Drache says, “It resists the influence of water, light, heat and ageing especially well and is an ideal option for applying labels to moist and cool surfaces. And no matter what the machine, its die-cutting attributes are excellent.”
