Bobst has created Hawkeye, a pinhole monitoring system which detects pinhole defects during metallisation.

Bobst says Hawkeye also accurately monitors the optical density (OD) uniformity, which can have significant time and cost saving benefits for suppliers as well as protecting their quality and brand reputation. According to Bobst, it eliminates the need for offline checking, reducing the risk of customer rejects.

The company says the system accurately checks defects throughout the full reel length and provides immediate live feedback alerts to the operator pinpointing the exact location of pinhole defects inside the vacuum chamber so that corrective measures can be applied to eliminate them.

It has a modular design and a user interface which can generate reports as PDF files for quality control and traceability.
