Logick Print & Graphics took out the supreme award at this year’s Pride In Print Awards, with a presentation box created to celebrate the Babich company’s centenary. A Logick customer, Graeme Brazier, stepped up to the stage to receive the award on behalf of the winning company’s founder and director Dave Gick, who has recently undergone surgery. Gick says, “It is very moving. We work so closely with our customers and we are rapt that we have achieved this. We had a quiet confidence but you just never know. This is the recovery tonic I needed.â€

Logick, a long-time supporter of Pride In Print, won the supreme award in 2012, again with a wine related job, a sheet of logo design concepts for Jacobs Creek. The awards ceremony, held at Sky City in Auckland, attracted around 700 industry members, celebrating the best of the best in New Zealand printing. Comedians Paul Ego and Ben Hurley compered the event, keeping proceedings moving at a brisk pace in between dinner and a dance to wind up the evening. This year’s awards campaign theme ‘Empowered by Print’ aimed to highlight the impact the printed media has in New Zealand, enabling other industries and sectors to profit from the strengths and traits inherent in printed media. The Babich Wines’ 100-year wine presentation box won the specialty products category prior to winning the supreme award winner. Judges described the piece as “brilliantâ€. The box contains a limited-edition bottle of 2013 Gimblett Gravels Hawkes Bay Cabernet Sauvignon, produced to celebrate the Babich centenary. The company produced 100 magnums and 330 750ml bottles to mark the occasion and winemaker Joseph Babich placed a note, signed in gold pen, in the box. Judges described the winner: “Extensive gold foiling, embossing and debossing on the black, red and white box and on the label create a stunning visual and tactile finish, topped off by the exquisite engineering of the outer box.†Steve Watson, specialist finishing judge at Pride In Print, says, “It is just fabulous; a great way to showcase a winemaker’s legacy to the world.â€
